Jan Pětr Jordan Monument
In memory of the Sorbian publicist, Slavicist, editor and publisher, Jan Pětr Jordan, the former Bahnhofstraße was named after him.
The street leading east from the railway station was named after the journalist, Slavist and publisher Dr. Peter Jordan, who was born in 1818. The son of a peasant family from Zischkowitz attended the Sorbian Grammar School and the Sorbian seminar in Prague. He focused on the unification of Sorbian orthography. With the publication of the "Grammar of the Wendish-Sorbian language in Upper Lusatia" he contributed substantially to the development of Upper Sorbian spelling. Deeply involved in the Czech national movement, he co-organised the 1st Slav Congress in Prague in 1848.
